Mission and Purpose
Surgical technologists assist operating-room teams before, during, and after surgeries, along with other responsibilities. Graduates are eligible for work in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, or research facilities. The program plan combines classroom teaching with supervised clinical experience for the surgical technologist. The student will receive information in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, surgical pathology and surgical procedures along with the standard practices involved in surgical technology. Graduates will have scrubbed in on or otherwise participated in approximately 170-200 surgical procedures. Upon completion of the program, the student is qualified to take the national certification examination for surgical technologists. The central goal of the program is preparing students to pass this exam.
