Environmental Science and Technology
Presenter
Mark Shepherd
Minutes
Add NEW Awards – new program CIP 03.0601: Wildlife, Fish and Wildlands Science and Management Wildlife Conservation and Management AAS - 60 Total SCH Wildlife Conservation and Management Level 2 Certificate - 31 Total SCH Wildlife Conservation and Management Enhanced Technical Certificate (Level 3) - 14 Total SCH Gretchen- the budget for faculty needs to be specified in the THECB application; specify if any current department faculty will be dedicated exclusively to the new program, etc. Jorge Lynch- It looks like the new courses do not have science prerequisites. Mark explained that many of their students come from working in the industry and already are experienced; this program is to provide them credentials. Cayce Pierce - The Enhanced Skills Certificate may not qualify for financial aid. We will need to research the clock hours. It will need at least 300 clock hours to qualify. Jacob Williamson - It would help degree completion if EDUC 1200 was expanded to """"""""EDUC 1200 (footnote: or 2 credits from Component Area Option Course List.) This will soak up a lot of likely science courses that students will bring to the table (BIOL 1406, for instance). It may be beneficial for a high-transfer-student degree to also include ENGL-1302 in the footnote, which does come on its own frequently from four-year institutions. Brandon – AGCR rubric has a typo in the degree plan: ACGR needs to be corrected. Gretchen - make sure to point out the current capacity and expertise of your faculty to carry out this program. That will be important to getting approval. Also, typically in the application, they want you to outline expected enrollments by year for the first five years Gretchen offered her assistance with finalizing the proposal to facilitate the application supporting documents for Board and THECB approvals. Add NEW Courses AGCR 2305 Entomology (3-3-0) WMGT 1300 Wildlife Preserve Management (3-3-0) WMGT 1305 Introduction to Wildlife Management (3-3-0) WMGT 1310 Wildlife Identification (3-2-2) WMGT 1323 Wildlife Conservation and Management (3-3-0) WMGT 2264 Practicum (or Field Experience) - Wildlife and Wildlands Science and Management (2-2-12) WMGT 2359 Wildlife Propagation, Handling, & Management (3-2-2) Cathy Angell motioned to approve for AAS, C1, and courses; seconded by Jonathan Buckstead. Approved with the edits and improvements as discussed. The ETC needs to be revised and be reconsidered at the February 19 committee meeting.

Minutes
Revise Award Dance AA – updating Program Description and Transfer Information sections; resequencing courses and adding footnotes to Core Curriculum Courses to provide more options Catherine - updating Program Description with the new mission statement and clarifying that they are not a fine arts program that leads into a Bachelor’s fine arts program. Jorge – concerned for default MATH 1324 course; it seems advanced for AA. Catherine said she believes that MATH 1324 is required in two of their transfer institutions; she will check. Jacob - Would it be appropriate to expand the speech option to include the other core speeches and allow the full list of core US History coursework as well? They're not common but for an arts-multicultural degree they are more likely to turn up. Catherine also discussed the EDUC course note. Suggested to expand it for students having over 12 SCH to select from Component Area Option of the Course Curriculum Course List. And both History courses footnotes can be expanded. Catherine noticed the “3” credit hours for MATH 1324 in Semester II was missing in the award plan. Georgia Branch will correct the final agenda binder. Motioned Jonathan Buckstead to approve the updates to the Program Description and Transfer Information sections with the condition that the proposed award plan will be edited and brought back for discussion on February 19th; Seconded by Carol Hawk.
