Student Homelessness Rights
Presenter
Chief Silas Griggs
Minutes
SGA confirms that no students have contacted them specifically regarding homeless student rights, but Mr. Sanchez expresses that students should be allowed to be on any campus.
Cheryl Richard to Chief Griggs: Do homeless non-students have the right to be on campus?
Chief Griggs: Yes, our facilities are open to the public. Students are only questioned when their behavior complaints causes us to address them.
Cheryl Richard: If a student has behavior issues or a police record, do the campus police let ACC know?
Chief Silas Griggs: If a student is a registered sex offender, we do notify the staff on campus. Datatel should be modified so that if a staff member is working with a registered sex offender, they will be notified. The college can exclude a student if their felony is specific to their program. We do not check on the felony background for students - we will only know of a student\'s felony record when they are a registered sex offender.
If we want to remove a student from campus - we refer to the education code that pertains to the Dean of Students unless it\'s a violent offense.
For clarification: Classrooms and hallways are public but if a student is disruptive - they can be arrested. Offices are private. Any student can stay on campus until closing time.
Conclusion: Homeless students/non-students rights are the same as any registered student/non student.

Cheryl Richard
Minutes
Sent link to Dr. Fraire and requested for her to have all Deans review.
Google Doc has been created to take their suggestions, input and edits.
Cheryl will bring statistics of persistence of students directly related to Orientation to next meeting.
TOP AR: All FTACC will take online orientation prior to registration. Since it\'s presentation at SSC last semester - this AR is still under review.
Committee: Can this be wrapped together with GPS?
Streamline Approach: Online Orientation from anywhere (home, library or on campus) at the end of Orientation - student can schedule a meeting with adviser and come to campus only one time.
