1)

Committee
Motion made by Tracie Nobles, seconded by Jim Pumphret. Minutes approved with two corrections – spelling error on Tony Ross and moving Tracie Nobles over from others present to members.
2)
ACNT 1325 Update
Denise White
Denise gave an update on ACNT 1325. As the committee can see, the numbering was corrected so that it is below the intermediate course that is a course taken afterwards. Courses were offered during the fall semester and the department believes that the course was successful. The students provided good feedback and reviews of the course.
3)
State of the Department
Dr. Reed Peoples
Dr. Peoples gave an update on the state of the department. We have a total of 47 faculty and staff. The 10th and (hopefully) 11th full time faculty positions have been approved by the school and hiring will begin in the spring. Reed reviewed the course load for full time faculty. Norma Jacobs has officially retired this semester. Enrollment is steadily increasing. The department is working on completion of certificates and degrees. Accounting is the second (2012) and third (2013) largest department in workforce programs in ACC. CPA exam standings as of Dec. 7, 2013, ACC is listed as #4. Two new faculty received their PhDs: David Floyd and Jerry Hays.
4)
Labs for Tax courses
Tracie Nobles and Jay Thibodeaux
Tracie and Jay discussed adding a lab to ACNT 1331 and ACNT 1347. (See documentation provided.) The committee moved to add a lab to ACNT 1331 and ACNT 1347. Motion passed. The committee encouraged the department to investigate purchasing a commercial software system.
5)
Labs for Intermediate Courses
Denise White and Larry Stephens
Denise and Larry discussed adding a lab to ACNT 1371, ACNT 2303, and ACNT 2304. (See documentation provided.) For ACNT 1371, the lab objective is for the students to be able to demonstrate the use of special journals and subsidiary ledgers by completing a practice set and understand the basic use of the FASB Codification for research. For ACNT 2303 and ACNT 2304, the lab objectives are to use the FASB codification for research, use internet resources to learn about International Financial Accounting Standards, achieve a deeper understanding of complex accounting concepts, and demonstrate proficiency through on-line assessments. The committee moved to add a lab to ACNT 1371, ACNT 2303, and ACNT 2304. Motion passed.
6)
Accreditation
Denise White
Denise gave an update on certification, planning, and review. (See documentation provided.) In June 2013, SACS notified ACC of the reaffirmation of accreditation. The SWOT analysis was completed last January and among our strengths included CPA program success, faculty dedicated to excellence. Some of our weaknesses included faculty workload, tutor gap, and faculty and staff development. The department submitted needs and goals through the institutional program review and academic master plan. Action item: Send a proposed recommendation to committee related to separate travel budget.
7)
New membership
Denise White
Denise discussed adding new members to the advisory committee and also setting up a website for the committee.
