Presenter
Minutes
- Discipline Assessment Cycle data from 2016 outcome - Last year’s measure on job readiness was met (see 2016 minutes for details on measure)
- Update on ACC structure – Students now experience ‘onboarding’ in their enrollment process. They have been required to attend an Area of Study (AoS) information sessions; however, there have been more online sessions lately than face to face.
- Department changes this year include a new division Dean, Dr Giao Phan, formerly Department Chair for Child Development. The new AoS for Human Services is Public and Social Services (PSS). PSS now includes American Sign Language, Child Development, Criminal Justice, Fire protection, Paralegal and Social Work.
- Program review from FY17 – we completed our program review as required. Some of the highlights of the report include:
*43% of HUSE students are non-white
*Between 2012-2016, there were 20 graduates who took the LCDC exam (18 passed on the first try, one on the second try, one failed but died before retesting, and one had not retested at the time of the report).
*In terms of graduates (in 2016), there were 12 degrees in Addictions Counseling, ten in General Human Services, and four in Therapeutic Recreation. The same year there were eight graduates with Addictions Counseling certificates, two with Addiction Counseling in the Criminal Justice certificate and three with Deaf Services Certificates.
*Overall, 86% of students succeeded in their courses which is determined to be an A/B/C grade
- Update on Mental Health Technician - Discussion was held last year to determine whether to add this certificate. Sandra initiated a survey that she sent to varied agencies to inquire and determine the need for this certificate, but the results indicated more data was needed to support adding this certificate.

New Business
Presenter
Minutes
ACC administration is reviewing Department Chair functions and is considering diminishing the number of Department Chairs (as well as assigning 12 month full administration duties) versus keeping the current structure and provide more release time. In the past, some departments have had Assistant Deans, while others haven’t. A decision will most likely be made by the start of Spring semester.

Discipline Assessment Cycle for 2017-18
Presenter
Minutes
ACC has asked departments to have a department goal. Our department goal is to increase networking opportunities for students. Our objective is to invite 3 agencies or universities to campus to speak directly to our students. So far we have had Park University come to speak, and have already scheduled a private life coach to visit in February who will discuss how students can present themselves professionally via social media, networking, resume, linked in, etc.
Tom advised the turnout at the Park University event was great. They got a lot of good feedback and has had five applications come through with three students ready to enroll. He will gather information regarding ACC transfers and provide the data to Liz.
Departments are also required to have Student Learning Outcome goals. This year we selected measuring learning related to becoming a LCDC-Intern. See attached handout for details.

Search for New F-Time Faculty
Presenter
Minutes
Lynn Beamans’ retirement has opened the opportunity to hire another Full-time faculty person in her place. The job posting will close on December 29th, 2017 and applications will be reviewed thereafter, with interviews to be scheduled in the spring. The posting can be viewed on the Human Resources website. ACC has a standard list with which they advertise job postings; and we also will do specialty posting in Therapeutic Recreation websites. We expect to have someone in place by fall 2018.

Review of Therapeutic Recreation Program

Therapeutic Recreation degree and certificate began with a grant years ago. While our enrollment has stayed steady over the years, we need to see if this changes with Lynn’s absence. Liz S stated that the Therapeutic Recreation program at Texas State University (TSU) has grown tremendously.
