Next Meeting: November 12th meeting was moved to January 28, 2011. Special notes: •4.04.021 Assessment Requirement for English (Mary Corredor) •Committee will continue to review AR’s to determine the requirements for TSI purpose. •Recommend to academic departments to include assessment requirement in course description as prerequisites. •Looking forward, TAKS is fading out into exit course tests in high schools. State is selecting a statewide test for assessing students into college readiness courses. They are likely changing it to Accuplacer.

Yolanda read the committee functions and explained the importance of the committee to the college. Members introduced themselves as well.

Yolanda reviewed recently approved AR rules. Add DEVW 0231 by Grammar and Usage on AR 4.04.006. Correction approved. Follow-up items Correction to 4.04.006; Patty Zuniga 4.04.007 and 4.04.20 are pending for approval; Yolanda Chapa 11/12/10 Next ACAC mtg.

Rule passed with change from “may be required to take” to “must take the assessment test”. Regardless of TSI status what students should be required to test? • Last paragraph of rule needs to be rewritten to match approved change. •The word “otherwise” was removed from the 2nd paragraph. •Clarify definition of TSI complete •Determine who will be exempt from testing (students with TAKS scores, ACT, SAT scores or associates degree or higher from english speaking institution. •Exemptions – eliminate TAKS, active duty, and reserve. Follow-up Items: Developmental departments will take AR 4.04.004 back to task force for feedback; Developmental Dept. representatives by Jan. 28, 2011 (next meeting).

Rule should indicate that departments are working with OSD office as well as students. Committee member will take to task forces. Follow-up Items: Departments representatives will discuss rule with task forces by Jan. 28, 2011.

Depending on interpretation of 4.04.004 Quick Reference Guide will need revision.

Committee agreed to separate OSD and Support Center. Follow-up Items: Patty will edit slip and forward to Deans administrative assistants.
