Hello Advisory Board members,
I hope this finds business moving back into a positive direction for you all. I wish I could check in with you in person. I am hoping by summer I can invite you all to the new Highland Learning Center facility. It is ready to open when we can go in-person. In addition to the classrooms, the Mock Hotel room is ready and the Special Events Design room has lots of wonderful linens for tablescape ideas (thank you to Premiere for the wonderful donations) and various glassware and plate settings to use (thank you to the Fairmont for their donations as well). We're excited for the students to have purpose-built facilities and look forward to being able to allow students and guests.
I have a couple of class curriculum requests. I will be presenting to our Curriculum Committee in February and am asking if you would approve the items below. Happy to field any thoughts or additions that you may have. One item is to approve adding an elective class option. The other two are process-related. If you approve, an affirmative email reply is all that is needed. (Or add comments if you like).
*Add Social Media course to restrictive elective choices: ETWR 1471: Social Media Tools 1. This is a Business and Professional Communications course, and it is targeted to social media management for the business environment. We often have industry partners reach out for students that have social media skills to help them manage this important, impactful and time consuming process for their company or business. This class would be part of the restrictive elective options for all of our degrees and certificates for Hotel & Restaurant, Meeting & Event Planning and Travel & Tourism.
*Replace Recreation Services with Travel Automation - The Advisory Board approved changing our Recreation Services class to our Sabre-training Travel Automation class 18 months ago, but I need a vote to delete the Recreation Services class altogether. It is confusing to list the class while not offering it. This is more of a process approval.
.
*Delete any prerequisites needed for our TRVM 1306 Travel Management class. This is again the Sabre training class, and because it replaced the Recreation Services class, it carried over a prerequisite that is not needed. This is more of a process approval.
I appreciate everyone's time considering these changes for our programs. Thank you, and all the best to each of you.
