DISCUSSION: After introductions, a brief review of the program and past activities from the year was given. This included discussion of bond approval, new converging media production degree approval, guest filmmaker workshops, Sundance Film Festival Film Forward Program, first SXSW Film Festival Student Showcase, Hill Country Film Festival Collaboration, and student work on professional films.

Discussion: James F. talked about recent first semester of new TV class, including the format with both short TV-style documentaries and episodic web series. A question was asked about distribution. Holly H. suggested integrating a digital distribution plan into the class which was met with support. Christian R. laid out the new Film Business and Marketing class which will cover budgeting, financial records and the marketing and distribution of films, asking for input. Budgeting was emphasized as key by Pat K., Alex S., and Michael M., as well as how to form one's own company and media entrepreneurship. The idea and value of a potential new introductory video class as a core class was positively received. Christian R. discussed the new POFT class, an audio option, social change film studies as well as Portfolio class, the later to be tailored to individual student needs. Group approved of approach, Holly H commenting about focusing specifically on individualized needs across in portfolio important. The Portfolio class was discussed further and the changing nature of the portfolio for media makers. Michael M. and Alex. S. both mentioned how the very short impressive film instead of montage style reel was one avenue.

Discussion: Christian R. gave an overview of program and use of AVID as well as consideration to utilize Premiere instead or both. Michael M. made point about importance of technique over tools, which was broad agreed upon by advisors and faculty/staff. Pros and cons about Avid and premiere were explored without general consensus. Mike S. gave an overview of our needs as far as digital asset management. Victor D. talked about how New 8 manages media, even from a mobile standpoint. JJ W. talked about how KLRU is addressing this issue right now, with all of its challenges. We agreed to say in touch on this to share information. The group discussed 4K Workflow, which there was a consensus was essential to teach.

Discussion: An overview of current state of project, which included discussion of creative media cluster and who it includes, space planning done this year and next phases for the RTF. Several members touched on the value of the location and appropriateness of the integration space and degree approach.

Discussion: The topic was introduced as looking to constantly evolve how we place interns for meaningful experiences to help them Segway into industry. Michael M. talked about how he uses interns, but its sometimes hard to give them the time they need. Mike S. asked the question about what skills where they looking for. Aside from production skills, Pat K. talked about how important it is to teach work ethic and attitude from the get go as students work their way up from the bottom on productions. In the context of several new classes, Christian R. raised the concept of partnerships with filmmakers to produce either a short or feature film integrated into the curriculum. Alex S. described a similar project he did at UNLV involving producer Roger Corman and other professionals.

Future of Industry Discussion Wrap Up

Discussion: Connected to the previous topic, Christian R. asked for other ideas about how students can get involved more with community, from a networking standpoint. Holly H. discussed the AFS student membership, which gives them access to programming, education and networking opportunities. Other organizations like the Austin Film Festival and Filmmaker Meetups were also mentioned as well as VR Filmmaking. Jonny Pascoe will remain as committee chair for the coming year. Further discussion on naming conventions of degrees followed.
