Carolynn introduced Discrete Mathematics course addition which replaces MATH 2404 course. New Course MATH 2305 Discrete Mathematics (3-3-0) – effective 216U000 Reed Peoples moved to accept MATH 2305 course; second by Ron Johns. Approved.

Gaye Lynn and Shirin introduced new interdisciplinary awards which are being developed to comply with a Texas state mandate. Shirin recognized members of the interdisciplinary subcommittee for their contributions. Add NEW Awards – Texas state mandate Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies: Peace and Conflict Studies Associate of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies: Human Ecology Matthew Daude moved to return the Human Ecology AA award plan to a future meeting; second by Michelle Fitzpatrick. Approved. Gaye Lynn will bring the award to the next meeting of Curriculum and Programs Committee on February 19, 2016. Carrier King moved to accept the Peace and Conflict Studies AA award; second by Regina Swearingen. Approved.

Regina explained changes to HPRS 1106 and HPRS 2300. Modify Courses HPRS 1106 Essentials of Medical Terminology (1-1-1) – adding lab hour for students to learn detailed course information HPRS 2300 Pharmacology for Health Professions (3-3-0) – revise prerequisites to BIOL 2401 OR BIOL 2404 with a grade of C or better OR pass a pre-pharmacology departmental assessment exam over Anatomy and Physiology course objectives Jack O'Grady moved to accept HPRS 1106 and HPRS 2300 course changes; second by Matthew Daude. Approved.

Shirin presented the ENGL 1302 Peace and Studies topic course. Modify Courses ENGL 1302 English Composition II (3-3-0) – adding Peace and Studies topic James Friedrichsen moved to accept ENGL 1302 PACS topic; second by Clark Peterson. Approved.

Ron discussed proposed additions to the Core Curriculum for 2016-17. Matthew Daude moved to add ARCH 1301, ARCH 1302 to the Creative Arts section of the core; second by Reed Peoples. Approved. Matthew Daude move to approve ARCH 1311 as an addition to Social and Behavioral Sciences section of the CORE predicates on ACGM title and description changes which become effective fall 2016; second by James Friedrichsen. Vote: 14 Ayes, 3 Opposed. Carrie King moved to accept BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 into CORE 2016-17; second by Jonathan Buckstead. Approved. Jonathan Buckstead moved to accept ENGL 2307 under Creative Arts in CORE 2016-17; second by Reed Peoples. Approved. Following discussion on faculty qualifications for Mexican-American studies course ENGL 2351, James Friedrichsen moved to approve adding ENGL 2351, HUMA 1305 and HUMA 1311 to CORE 2016-17; second by Reed Peoples. Approved. Jorge Lynch moved to approved level one language courses (ARAB 1411, CHIN 1411, FREN 1411, GERM 1411, JAPN 1411, LATI 1411, RUSS 1411, SPAN 1411) and level two language courses (ARAB 1412, CHIN 1412, FREN 1412, GERM 1412, JAPN 1412, LATI 1412, RUSS 1412, SPAN 1412) for 2016-17 CORE; second by James Friedrichsen. Approved. Ron Johns will make the CORE course submissions to THECB in spring 2016.

Curriculum and Programs Committee Handbook (December 2015) Joe Lostracco discuss Dr. Charles Cook's request that the Curriculum and Programs Committee Handbook be revised to include Continuing Education in the committee's processes and procedures. Joe recognized Joann Kroll and Dianne Olla for assistance with this project. Committee discussed having a role in the revision as members of a shared-governance group. The committee identified additional topics for consideration in the revised manual. A revision subcommittee chaired by Clark Peterson was established. Regina Swearingen, Jorge Lynch, Michelle Fitzpatrick, and Joe Lostracco will join Clark in the review. Topics for consideration included: (1) Adding Curriculum and Programs Committee responsibility for CORE courses. (2) Proxy voting. (3) Study Abroad links. What is responsibility of Curriculum and Programs Committee for Study Abroad courses? (4) Broad language within the manual. A second subcommittee under the leadership of Matthew Daude was established to look at the committee's charge and scope. Ron Johns and Reed Peoples agreed to serve on this subcommittee. Others are invited to join in. (5) Admin Rule 4.1. If changes are mandated by the state, why must advisory minutes be part of proposals to committee. Perhaps having a consent agenda is the solution. Proposed adding consent agenda language to the manual. (6) Expiring Awards. Where is information required for teach-out plans, lists of students. See INSS.004 form. (7) Distance Learning. George returned from the October 16, 2015 meeting with a three-hour cooperative course which will be added to the Geology AS in the footnotes. Revise Award Plan (committee requested on 10-16-15) Geology AS Add Course GEOL 2389 Academic Cooperative in Geological Research (3-3-0) James Friedrichsen moved to accept the revised Geology AS plan and course GEOL 2389; second by Regina Swearingen. Approved.

Marcus proposed the Peace and Conflict Studies topic to DRAM 1310. Modify Course DRAM 1310 Introduction to Theatre: Peace and Conflict Studies (3-3-0) James Friedrichsen moved to accept the DRAM 1310 Peace and Conflict Studies topic with a revision to the PACS course description; second by Carrie King. Approved. 1/22/16 Exchange of emails followed meeting. Still need resolution of revised wording.

John presented a revised course description to level 1 and level 2 foreign language courses. John McMinn reported foreign language task force unanimously approved the level I and level II course description changes proposed during the 1/22/16 Curriculum and Programs Committee meeting.

Reed requested approval to expire ETWR 1377 which had not been offered singe 213S000. Expire Course ETWR 1377 Indexing and Document Control (3-3-0) – expire 216U000 James Friedrichsen moved to accept ETWR 1377 course expiration; second by Regina Swearingen. Approved.

Reed continued with a request to expire HAMG 1300 last offered in 211S000. Expire Course HAMG 1300 Introduction to the Casino and Gaming (3-3-0) – expire 216U000 Clark Peterson moved to accept HAMG 1300 course expiration; second by Carrie King. Approved.

Reed continued with a request to expire IBUS 1191 last offered in 209S000. Expire Course IBUS 1191 Special Topics in International Business (1-1-0) – expire 216U000 Jack O'Grady moved to accept IBUS 1191 course expiration; second by Clark Peterson. Approved.

Ina proposed adding an additional restricted elective to bring total SCH to 18 so students would be able to apply for financial aid. Revise Award Real Estate Licensing Certificate – adding restricted elective James Friedrichsen moved to accept revised Real Estate Licensing Certificate with the provision that the footnote 2 lists all the courses by rubric-course number; second by Jonathan Buckstead. Approved.

Christian requested approval to add POFT 1171 success course, and to modify restricted electives in the Converging Media Production AAS. Restricted electives were revised in the Radio-Television-Film AA, and certificates were revised to reflect course number changes.
