Advisory Committee members were asked to review a proposal to add a 1 credit hour course that would instruct students in the setup and safe operation of laser cutting, laser scanning and 3D printing equipment. Course Details: DFTG 1196 Introduction to Modeling, Prototyping and 3D Printing – 1 Credit, 1 Lecture Hour, 1 Lab Hour – HYBRID (32 contact hours) COURSE DESCRIPTION: An introduction to the techniques and processes of creating prototypes and scale models utilizing digital and manual fabrication equipment and methods. Safe operation of tools and equipment is emphasized. END-OF-COURSE OUTCOMES: At the end of this course, students will be able to: * Practice safe operational techniques for using laser cutting and other fabrication tools * Demonstrate setup and operation of 3-D printing equipment * Understand the functionality and operation of laser scanning equipment * Demonstrate best practices for utilizing A&E CAD laboratory equipment and tools covered in the course through the creation of subject test pieces Advisors were asked to comment and vote yea or nay on the proposal. Comments were overwhelmingly positive. Voting yea were: Audrea Moyers, Brett Grinkmeyer, Dan Gruber, Cong Do, Clint LaFont, Alberto Gutierrez, and Ralph Sanchez. No nay votes were recorded.
