Online Withdrawal
Presenter
Kathleen Christensen
Minutes
At present there is no required intervention before withdrawal. The idea was brought to A&R and SASC for discussion. Years ago there was a subcommittee reviewing this proposal headed by Paul Duffy but it “died.” Tobin was on the committee but said there were so many complex issues that affect students; Financial Aid, Status, etc. The idea of making students have counselor sign off on withdrawal was not feasible due to the large number of students who try to drop on the last day.
Carol Townsend asked if asked other colleges had student online self withdrawal and how it was handled. Also a suggestion was made to create a program in the system with minimum requirements to allow students to drop tying it to student standing.
Kathleen said more faculty feedback is needed.
Terry asked if IT’s been consulted. Kathleen has discussed it with Andrew Christie and he is not for it.
The subject will require more discussion.

Update on Achieving the Dream Retreat
Presenter
Tobin Quereau and Rich Griffiths
Minutes
Rich provided copy of the power point presentation given to faculty coaches.
Tobin gave a brief review of the retreat, data binders and exercises.

Student satisfaction with services is also a predictor of success.
The need is for high expectation of students with high support from the faculty coaches.
Rich said collaboration important as well.
Study Skills intervention plus time management training work well together.
Mike Reid asked why study skills are not mandated for all students.
Kathleen responded that they are still studying the effect on students’ lives (outside school, work etc).
Susan Jones asked why not have study skills specific to subjects, Tobin said it is being considered.

Mascot Proposal
Presenter
K. C. Caliz
Minutes
History of it, students had an interest in reviving it. Doing as a way to create pride and a college-going culture. Initially ACC asked for suggestions from students, staff and the public. It has been cut down to 20 or so and a third party PR firm will help to do research. Focus groups will be used. Marketing will present results to the board then have a vote by ACC to find final 2 which will go to the board for a final decision.

Tobin- next meeting Feb 12
Loretta Edelen reminded everyone of the MLK Youth Awards at EVC, January 10 at 4:00 p.m.
Also the January 17 MLK Celebration with Keynote address by Dr. Eric Michael Dyson at the Long Center.
January 18 MLK March
Kathy Angell – ACC needs a better way to inform students of school load. Five (5) credit language courses are quite intensive and students overload themselves. Maybe it would be possible to have students to help other students.
Katharine Bennett – It may be possible to have department lists of students who can help.
There was a discussion on making study skills mandatory. Katharine Bennett suggested having a certain amount of hours of study such as workshops etc.
Tobin said the college is looking at such ways.
